McMurrich JPS: Air & Space Museum Visit

Our Grade 6 classes were true ambassadors of our school community as they took part in a tour of the Air & Space Museum located in Downsview Park, where they were able to ask probing questions to learn more about the museum's history and those who volunteer to make it what it is today.

A special thanks to Ron and John, our tour guides for their enthusiasm and patience and
for sharing their insights and wisdom with the students. With the support from staff at Media Services and Ms. Papulkas from IT, students were engaged and able to integrate the use of new technology to conduct their interviews and make a photo diary through the use ipods and digital cameras. Students will be using Audacity and Photo Story to edit and compile their learning. Keep visiting this blog as it will be updated over the next two weeks with the images and interviews conducted by the students. Also, a few student reflections of their learning experiences will be included. Enjoy :o)

  3. When I went to the Air and Space Museum, it was really cool to see airplanes that were over 100 years old. The museum was also getting ready for their 100 year anniversary celebrating in late February. The museum used to be a secret base where airplanes were being built. Randy

  5. The Air and Space Museum is a great place to visit if you want to learn about the history of aviation, especially Canadian aviation. It was very interesting because I got to see many flying machines. I'm looking forward to new additions after their 100th year anniversary celebrations. DanYang

  6. Ms T I would like to thank you for booking the trip for our class to visit the Air and Space Museum. I learned that thrust needs to be at a good weight level to make the plane land. This helps me with my project because I am researching thrust's role in flying devices. I hope to visit the museum this weekend. Thanks again. Troy

  7. The Aerospace Museum was an awesome trip. We had the chance to see some of Canada's oldest aircrafts. The planes on display were great and the tour guides were amazing because they talked about the history of the planes. I would like to go back there on a weekend soon and try the flight simulator. 8. The Air and Space Museum was so cool! We learned about so many planes and about famous pilots. My favourite plane was the Avro Arros because it was going to be one of the best planes back at its time. I have a question for everyone, why do you think the Avro Arrow project was cancelled?

I also really enjoyed the sports centre and the animal rehabilitation center. Malik

The Hangar was really fun because we played basketball together. We also visit the animal shelter and this was nice because I saw animals that I have never seen before. I hope to visit there again. 13. Taking field trips that allow students to get up close to items is a great way to put things into perspective. The size of the planes, materials used to build, advancements made over time with technology and so on. I too found standing next to the Avro Arrow very "cool". It is truly a remarkable aircraft that makes a very political time in Canadian history. Several students have shared a plane or planes which particularly interested them. What could you share about the aircraft that captured your attention and what role did it play in Canadian Flight?

aircraft lovers to learn about their canadian history.what would happen/what should we do if an animal is hurt but still able to fly?
